Holter monitoring
24 or 48 hour wearable monitors to detect irregular heartbeats.
Treadmill stress testing
Exercise-based heart function testing, performed and supervised on site.
Chronic cardiovascular disease management
Support for ongoing heart health and condition monitoring, alongside your family doctor.
24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
Continuous blood pressure monitoring over 24 hours to assess daily patterns and detect hypertension.
How a referral works
Four steps from symptom to seen.
Cardiology is a referral service. You cannot book it directly, and that is normal for specialist care in Ontario.

See a family doctor
Ours, or your own elsewhere. The referral needs an assessment behind it, plus any bloods or an ECG that make the picture clearer.

The referral is sent
Written and faxed to Lifeheart with the history, the medications and the reason. Urgency is stated on it.

Lifeheart books you
They contact you directly with a date at this address. Waits depend on urgency, not on who asked.

Results come back here
The consult letter, the tests and the plan return into your chart, and your family doctor follows up on the parts that belong to primary care.
Coverage
Cardiology is covered by OHIP with a referral.
The consultation and the diagnostic testing are insured. What is not insured is the paperwork other organisations ask for afterwards.
Bring these to the appointment
- Your health card
- Every medication and dose, including anything over the counter
- Previous ECGs, echo reports, stress tests or hospital letters
- Home blood pressure readings, if you take them
- A list of symptoms with when they happen and what brings them on
- Comfortable shoes and clothes if stress testing is planned

If Lifeheart already looks after you, your follow-up can happen at this address rather than at another clinic. Ask them to book you here.
If you are not sure whether your symptoms need cardiology at all, that is exactly what a family appointment is for. Most chest pain is not cardiac, and finding out should not take three months.
